House, M.D. Spoilers: November Sweeps…

…Is just around the Corner and here’s the latest info from FOX:

Monday, Oct. 31 “Risky Business” A CEO (guest star Michael Nouri) falls mysteriously ill just days before he signs a contract that would relocate his company’s entire labor force to China. House (Hugh Laurie) attempts to make an underhanded business transaction with his wealthy patient, but when his condition worsens, the team must work around the clock to save his life. Meanwhile, Park (Charlyne Yi) prepares for her hearing with the Princeton Plainsboro Disciplinary Committee chaired by Foreman (Omar Epps), and Adams’ (Odette Annable) outlook on her patient’s business venture reveals her deeper feelings about loyalty.

Monday, Nov. 7 “The Confession”  A man (guest star Jamie Bamber) well-respected in his community suddenly collapses, and in the process of diagnosing his symptoms, the team discovers that the patient has been hiding dark secrets and lying about his personal and professional life. But when the patient openly confesses his wrongdoings to his family and community, he compromises his chances of receiving the proper medical treatment that could save his life. Meanwhile, Chase (Jesse Spencer) and Taub (Peter Jacobson) rejoin the team, and Taub tries to balance life at the hospital with his responsibilities as a father of two infant daughters from two different mothers.

Monday, Nov. 14  “Parents”

A teenage boy (guest star Harrison Thomas) attempting to follow in his late father’s footsteps as an entertainer is admitted to Princeton Plainsboro with partial paralysis. As the team searches for a bone marrow match, they uncover a disturbing family secret. Meanwhile, House looks for creative ways to remove his ankle monitor so that he can attend a boxing match in Atlantic City, and he treats a patient (guest star John Scurti) who is convinced he is suffering from diabetes. Also, Taub faces a tough decision when his ex-wife Rachel (guest star Jennifer Crystal Foley) tells him that she wants to move across the country with their infant daughter.

Monday, Nov. 21  “Dead & Buried” The team learns that their 14-year-old patient (guest star Madison Davenport) is suffering from more than teen angst when her physical symptoms worsen. Despite Foreman’s firm opposition, House becomes obsessed with solving a peculiar case of a deceased four-year-old patient, which gets him into serious trouble. Meanwhile, Park tries to get Chase (Jesse Spencer) to admit the reason behind his recent obsession with grooming.

Happy Birthday Chasing Zebras

In three days, my book, Chasing Zebras: The Unofficial Guide to House, M.D. turns one-year old. This year has flown by so fast!

I want to thank everyone who has supported the book, enjoyed it, reviewed it and taken the time to send me feedback and notes of congratulation. Thanks also to those who have posted my TV interviews on YouTube, have retweeted news of Chasing Zebras, entered contests and blogged. You are all appreciated.

When Chasing Zebras came out it was available in paperback and only in English–and only in the U.S. and Canada. A year later, Chasing Zebras is all over the world–from China to the UK; from Israel to New Zealand. It’s out in Spanish and soon to be out in Russian and French (and who knows what else?). It’s in Kindle and iBook, ePub and PDF! Thousands of you have purchased it, borrowed it from libraries or pilfered it from friends. I am gratified and humbled. It’s no New York Times bestseller, but its done well for a first book–and such a niche book. I recently did a Goodreads book giveaway. In the week the book was up for the sweepstakes, more than 450 people entered for 10 copies. It was a huge success, and thank you AME (Author Marketing Experts) for making it possible!!!!!

I’ve learned a lot from writing a book. One of the most important lessons is that writing the book is actually only the first step of an ongoing effort to get the word out and get people to buy the thing! I’ve tried a virtual book tour; hired a conventional publicist, designed a website (and then had someone who knew what they were doing redesign it!). I’ve done TV, radio and print interviews; done signings and personal appearances in a whole variety of different venues. With a full time day job–and a practically full time job as executive editor of Blogcritics Magazine, finding time to do publicity is a little like threading a needle.

I do hope you will continue spreading the word about Chasing Zebras, and if you haven’t written up an Amazon.com or Goodreads review (or Barnes and Noble, for that matter), I would greatly appreciate your taking the time to do so. The more people that buy the book, the better chance that there will be a sequel to it. That’s how publishing works :)

Thank you again,

Barbara

Are You Ready for House, M.D.’s Season 8?

Published first at BlogCritics

Caveat: Mild spoilers ahoy, me mateys.

We are about one month from the season eight premiere of House, M.D., starring Hugh Laurie as the genius diagnostician Dr. Gregory House. When last we saw Dr. House, he had crashed his car into the (unoccupied) dining room of his boss and ex-girlfriend Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein). Fleeing from the scene, House ended season seven on a beach somewhere in the South Pacific, strolling down a beach into the sunset.

As we enter season eight, much has changed in House’s world. Cuddy is gone. Full stop. Edelstein’s departure (she will be seen this season on The Good Wife in a guest-starring role) was a blow to House’s cast and creative team.

But what effect will her departure have on House? Will he feel responsible for her leaving? Or will he blow it off, holding his angst over it (which will be there) inside? Personally, I would like to see House’s struggle with Cuddy’s absence, trying to make it not matter, but failing in his effort.

The House, M.D Season Finale “Moving On” – Some Final Thoughts

Posted on Blogcritics.org

I’ve done a lot of thinking about “Moving On,” the House, M.D. Season 7 finale. I decided after watching its original airing, I’d let it rest a week and watch it again without preconceived notions fueled by spoilers and promos, and without the news of Lisa Edelstein’s (Lisa Cuddy) departure too fresh in my mind. It’s sunk in by now that she’s not returning, and in a way, the finale—whatever you may think of it—gives the series an way to make the break permanent if that’s what the parties want. (Although who knows? There’s no reason to believe she’ll stay away forever, and wouldn’t it be spectacular for her to make a surprise guest appearance sometime this season?)
